Der Untersberg looms over my little place in Niederalm. It reaches an elevation of 1972 m (if you believe Wikipedia), and for the weak of body or spirit, you can take the Untersbergbahn to the top. For those made from sterner stuff, there are numerous hiking trails to the summit, some of which present a good hiking challenge. You will be rewarded with views over Salzburg and surrounding districts for making the journey, which is well worth it.
