The Adventure of a Lifetime?

Motorcycles, The Lonely Motorcyclist

Every once in a while, various events and circumstance in our lives suddenly align, offering new opportunities, ideas, thoughts, emotions, goals and aspirations. It's very much up to us to make ourselves aware that these scenarios can indeed happen, and to then have the courage to act when they present themselves.

Too often we are conditioned into thinking that life is completely linear, one event happens after another, we simply float along through various stages, not really questioning why, rather we just adhere to the path that's been laid for us by our family, by our peers, by social conditioning, by society, and via the environment we create for ourselves.

So what happens when we challenge the accepted, or if we don't fit into that mould? What happens if we were following that path, only to have that life and associated certainties yanked out from under us like a cheap rug? Generally, we ask some questions, and we then go looking for answers.

The last four years of my life have been transitionary. I have had my nice comfortable life turned on its head by having that proverbial rug yanked out from under my feet. A consumerist lifestyle, based on things, coupled with a house in the suburbs, picket fences, and a 4WD for the missus, hardwood floors, school fees etc., that was the future that was laid out for me, and I was happily marching along to that tune.

But not anymore.

After much planning, and even more procrastinating, I have decided to undertake a trip that will hopefully challenge, inspire, and push me to my limits.

On the 9th of May, I will fly to the United Kingdom and pick up a motorcycle. From there, I'll take the ferry to Spain, and once on the mainland, I will ride in a massive anti-clockwise loop around Europe, 16'000 km, 16 countries, 60 days.

Here I shall document this adventure of a lifetime, so I may share it with you all, and so hopefully you will dream...
